For many Britons who decide to move abroad, doing so can be as stressful as it is exciting.
While there is the opportunity to start a new chapter in your life, there is the uncertainty of having to adapt to different environments and potentially having to learn a new language.
Add to that the often complicated scenario of having to sort out finances and residency in a new country, and suddenly it may not seem like such an exciting experience.
Luckily, relocation experts have shared the three most important tips you should tick off your checklist before moving abroad.
The experts at 1st Move International have created an interactive checklist designed specifically for those preparing to move abroad from the UK.

They broke down essential tasks into manageable time frames spanning two months, one month, and the week leading up to the move.
Sharing the tasks you should complete at least two months before you move, Mike Harvey, CEO of 1st Move International, said: “Preparing your legal documents is the most important step that should be completed well in advance.”
‘Make sure your passports are valid and obtain any necessary visas or permits, as well as set up international transfers with your bank, update your health, home and car insurance for your new location.’
The relocation guru also said you should take care to finalize the details of your move by confirming dates with your moving company, completing a valuable inventory and submitting your insurance form.
During this time, you should also settle your financial obligations by paying regular bills, loans and other commitments, checking your credit cards for international use and notifying institutions about your upcoming move.

Finally, a week before you move, you should remember to confirm your travel plans and local arrangements by checking your flight tickets and accommodation reservations and notifying your local council and electoral roll of your move.
You should also be adequately prepared for the trip by withdrawing enough cash for travel expenses and charging all necessary electronic devices.
This is also the time to cancel any newspapers, food subscriptions, and other regular deliveries.
Commenting on moving abroad, Mr Harvey added: ‘Before you move, it is essential to take several important steps to ensure that your overseas relocation goes as smoothly as possible.
‘This is a long process and must begin at least 2 months before your departure.
‘Financial arrangements should be made well in advance, such as informing banks and credit card companies about the relocation to avoid problems with accessing funds while abroad.
‘It is also vital to settle all outstanding bills and redirect mail to a designated address to avoid losing correspondence.’
