Billionaire Elon Musk said Tuesday that he will not, in fact, donate $45 million a month to a pro-Trump super PAC, dealing a major blow to the former president’s campaign coffers.
The Wall Street Journal was the first to report Earlier this month, Musk had announced that he planned to spend the massive monthly sum to get former President Donald Trump reinstated in the White House. The donations, according to the Journal, would be channeled through a new political action committee called America PAC, which focuses on registering voters and building support in key states.
Musk told conservative commentator Jordan Peterson on Tuesday that those reports were “simply not true.”
“Yes, it’s ridiculous,” he said. aggregate on X, the social media site he owns. “I am making some donations to America PAC, but at a much smaller level and the PAC’s key values are supporting meritocracy and individual liberty. Republicans are overwhelmingly, but not entirely, on the side of merit and liberty.”
He went on to say that the core principles of the America PAC were to promote the principles that “made America great in the first place.” He added that it was not “MAGA,” referring to the “Trump Make American Great Again” mentality.
“I think America is great,” Musk said in his interview with Peterson, adding that his PAC would not be “hyperpartisan.”
“I’m more of a ‘MAG: Make America Greater.’”
Trump has He already boasted on reports of Musk’s now-debatable donations, though he has continued his attacks in electric vehicles.
“The other day Elon supported me and I read that, even though I didn’t even know it, he didn’t even tell me, he gives me $45 million a month,” Trump said at a rally in Michigan last week. “A month! Not $45 million, he gives me $45 million a month!”
Musk could very well change his mind. Five months ago, he said that… I wasn’t giving anything to any of the presidential candidates.
